Clinton Lake Museum joins Juneteenth Celebration

The Douglas County Juneteenth Celebration welcomes Clinton Lake Museum, a registered Underground Railroad facility, to its line-up. Both the museum and Juneteenth officials are thrilled to add the museum to the celebration.

Future brings daylong Underground Railroad tours

The Juneteenth celebration offered three short Underground Railroad tours throughout the day on June 17. The short tours gave visitors a historical perspective of Douglas County's Underground Railroad sites. In the future, daylong tours will be offered.

Judy Sweets and Tolly Wildcat, members of the Underground Railroad Association, provided a tour of sites in Lawrence that were part of the Underground Railroad. The tour was in conjunction with the Juneteenth celebration, a commemoration of the end of slavery.

The tour served as publicity for the musuem projects that Sweets and Wildcat, together with the Underground Railroad Association of Douglas County, hope to complete with the help of Lawrence government and other residents.
