Theft/Criminal Trespassing/Interference With Duties of a Police Officer

A male suspect was arrested early Wednesday morning (4/5/06) after he stole a hot dog, drink and cartons of cigarettes from a Kwik Shop. The suspect brought the items to the register and fled as the clerk waas ringing them up. He fled southbound on foot and attempted to hide in an unlocked, parked car when he was caught on the 1700 block of Kent Terrace.

O.U.I/Drug Possession

A 22-year-old white male was arrested after 3:00a.m. on Wednesday morning (4/5/06) for operating a motor vehicle under the influence and possessing marijuana. The suspect's bail has been set at $500 for the O.U.I and $100 for the marijuana possession.

Motor Vehicle Theft

A 25-year-old female victim reported her '97 Mercury Sable stolen from the 500 block of Forrest Avenue. The car is valued at $5,500 with Kansas tags valued at $15.

Criminal Damage
$400 worth of criminal damage was done to the Sprint store on the 2100 block of 27th Street on Monday, March 27, 2006. The incident occured at 7:25a.m. The investigation is under way.

Criminal Damage To Property/Felony
A 21-year-old female KU student reported her car keyed on all sides and the hood. The incident occured off of Emery Road beginning on Saturday, March 11, 2006 and ending on Sunday, March 12, 2006. The damage is totalled at $1,500.

Damage To Property
A 22-year-old self-employed male reported damage to the wall of his apartment on the 4100 block of West 24th Place. The incident was reported on Tuesday, March 28,2006. The 4" hole damage is totalled at $150. A 20-year old male KU student was witness to the damage.

Burglary/Theft
Three victims reported a burglary wihtout force on the 1300 block of Tennessee Street on Monday March 27, 2006. The three victims are two 22-year-old male KU students and a 23-year-old male KU student. The three reported the theft of a Samsung television set, an X-Box gaming console, an Apple computer, two Dell computers and a Sony Playstation gaming console. The theft is totalled at $4,000. The incident is being investigated.

Criminal Trespassing
A male suspect was found trespassing at the Legends Apartment complex on the 4100 block of 24th Place. The incident was reported at 4:12am on Wednesday, March 15, 2006. The offender was suspected of using alcohol.

Aggravated Assault And Disorderly Conduct
Three suspects were involved in a dispute on Sunday, March 12, 2006. The first suspect a 36-year-old white female discharged a firearm on the ground. A 36-year-old and 18 year-old white male were also involved. The incident occured on the 3400 block of Sweet Grass. A 24-year-old male KU student, a 21-year-old female KU student, and a 25-year-old female KU student were listed as victims in the crime. The report was sent to the District Attorney's office and no arrests have been made so far.

Aggravated Assault And Battery
A 22-year-old Haskell University student was attacked with a knife on the 2200 block of Iowa Street on Tuesday, March 14, 2006.

Rape
Lawrence police officers were called to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a female victim reported a rape on Friday, March 10, 2006. The victim requested treatment and a rape kit at the hospital. The suspect is a 21-year-old white male, who was known to the victim. Both the victim and the suspect are Lawrence residents. No arrests have been made yet and the police department is investigating whether alcohol was involved.

Skateboarding Arrest
A 19-year-old male was taken into custody after 4:00p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 7 for skateboarding on the sidewalk in the 800 block of Massachusetts Street and interfering with the duties of a police officer. The suspect attempted to flee but was chased and caught by the police officer on a bike. The suspect sustained a minor injury.

Pedestrian Hit By Vehicle
Around 12:20p.m. on Monday, Mar. 6, a 52-year-old female pedestrian travelling north at a crosswalk on 10th and Vermont Street was hit by a truck. The vehicle struck the victim as it was turning off Vermont to go east.

Car Lot Sustains Damages
A total of $1,800 worth of criminal damages to the rear windows of two vehicles were sustained on Tuesday, Mar. 6 at the Laird Noller storage lot. Both the rear windows of a 2003 Lincoln and a 2003 Ford F350 van were damaged. Police are investigating the possibility that the damages may have been caused by a pellet gun.

Car Theft
A 21-year-old KU student reported his car stolen on Monday, Mar. 6. The stolen 2001 Sunfire also contained $563 worth of the student's possessions.

Aggravated Burglary/Aggravated Intimidation
Tuesday, Mar. 7 around 5:30am a 20-year-old female reported an aggravated burglary and aggravated intimidation. The suspect is a 22-year-old male, who broke the victim's door down to enter the residence and batter the victim.

Sexual Battery
Around 10:30p.m.Tuesday a woman in her twenties was approached by three white men in Club Liquid's parking lot. One male, in his twenties and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, stuck his hand up her dress and touched her inappropriately. The victim yelled and the three men left. No arrests have been made.

Lude and Lascivious Behavior
Sunday a 40-year-old transient male was observed making inappropriate motions in a dumpster-designated area. The incident occurred in the 700 block alley between Massachussetts Street and New Hampshire Street.

Rape
Saturday around 4p.m., a 38-year-old white female reported being raped and injured at her residence. The suspect is a 45-year-old black male who the victim knew. The incident occurred after the two had an argument and the victim locked the suspect out of the house, and he got back in. The suspect was brought in for an interview at the Police Department. The case has been sent to the D.A. for further investigation.

Mother Arrested for Endangering Children
Sonya McDermott, A 24-year-old white female, was arrested yesterday for leaving her baby and her 5-year-old home alone.

Hastings Gift Certificate Thefts
An 18-year-old male is suspected of making false returns to the Hastings store and redeeming the amount on gift certificates, which he later used to buy merchandise. The total theft comes to $716.54. The suspect has been arrested and interviewed. The complete report was sent to the D.A. for further investigation.

Narcotic Drug Possession
An 18-year-old male Lawrence High School student was suspended from school after narcotics were found in his backpack in a S.O.R. office. The incident occurred between Feb. 24 and Feb. 26. The case was forwarded to the D.A. for prosecution, and the drugs were sent to lab for testing.

Homicide Arrest
At 7:30pmWednesday, the Lawrence Police Department, with the help of the Topeka Police Department, arrested 18-year-old Rashaun T. Anderson for the first-degree murder of Robert E. Williams. Willams was gunned down outside the Granada on Feb. 5, 2006. Anderson's arrest took place in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street in Lawrence. He will be held in the Douglas County Jail on a $500,000.00 bond. A media briefing was held at the Law Enforcement Center, 111 East 11th in Lawrence at 9am Thursday.

Child Abuse
A two-year-old Lawrence boy was admitted to Lawrence Medical Hospital overnight after his mother had observed his injuries and taken him in. The hospital called the police around 8pm Wednesday for further investigation of possible child abuse. The suspect is unidentified.

Sexual Battery Follow-Up
A 19-year-old male suspect accused of battering a 17-year-old female July 10, 2005, was arrested Wednesday. The arrest took place in the 1300 block of W. 6th Street at a carwash.

Stolen Car
A 1994 Silver Nissan Altima was stolen from 2201 Harper Street Wednesday. The car had a Kansas tag, #WRH672

Aggravated Assault and Theft
A Walmart employee confronted a shoplifter and was assaulted with a knife. The 44-year-old victim sustained only minor injuries. The shoplifter was arrested.

Attempted Aggravated Robbery
A 5'2" white female, between the ages of 20 and 30 years, attempted to rob a male at his residence. The suspect had brownish-black hair and was wearing a grey coat. The victim opened his door after the doorbell rang. Suspect then told him she had a knife and demanded money. The victim closed the door and called police. No arrest has been made.

Possible Stolen Property
An individual atempted to use stolen gift certificates at Checkers. Suspect was wearing a white shirt, black ballcap and jeans. He was in his mid- 20s. The certificates had been purchased by Hillcrest Elementary.

Disorderly Conduct
An employee at US Cleaners reported a man in his 40s who refused to move from the business doorway. When the victim has asked the man to move, the man had yelled obscenities at him.

Auto Burglary
A car was stolen on the 1400 block of Brighton Circle yesterday. It was stolen by forced entry.
